Q.Brother Aurangzaib! Please enlighten us about "ZULQARNAIN' mentioned in 18/83-94, Mr. moazzam is requested to hold his horse, because he might turn the "Zulqarnain" in to some ATTRIBUTE OR new terminology of Qura'n.

1.Dear Brother Naeem Sheikh,

I like your “pre-emptive air strike” against our dear Brother Moazzam. But that unfortunately deprived us from a purely rational explanation from him which, by all means, would have been beneficial for all. Among all the big “egg-heads” scattered all over Quranic and Religious forums, Brother Moazzam stands out as a harbinger of enlightened thought.

Coming to the point, you seek ‘rational’ clarification of the concept of Zulqarnain in the context of Verses:18/83-94. Please follow the trail below, as I try to understand it, in writing, in your company :

قرن = Qarn: to connect, to couple or conjoin, to relate
قرن شیئاّ بشئی = Qarana Shayi’an bi Shayi’in: He connected, coupled or conjoined
قرینہ = a connection, relation, etc.
ذو القرنین =Dzu al Qarnain (Zulqarnain/dhul-qarnayn): - the two horned one, one belonging to two centuries, or two generations, master of two states/kingdoms. The surname of Cyrus (Darius 1) the ruler of Media and Persia which were combined into a single kingdom under him.

Let us now refrain from mingling mythology, or out of Quran stuff, with Quranic explanation. You know, there is a lot of myth involved in this TITLE, some ancient history has also been superficially dragged into it, and a lot of CONJECTURE too.

By the above meanings from lexicons, Zulqarnain may very well mean “the one capable of - having the power of - conjoining two civilizations together”. And that must be my lord Mohammad pbuh.

To come to this conclusion, I had to recall my notes taken during one of Dr. QZ’s lectures explaining the Chapter KAHAF. Verses 18/83-94 and their whole Context narrating Syedna Musa’s journey (alongwith a very special Companion), in fact, is symbolizing the journey IN TIME of one civilization (Jewish) to another (Christian). And subsequently, both civilizations’ combined journey to Zulqarnain (Prophet Mohammad), who had the mandate to connect them both into a final, united, global civilization.

I am sure countless questions would jump up in your mind by this short hint. But sorry to say, you will have to wait for Dr. QZ’s complete translation of Chapter KAHAF. I can only assure you, at this stage, that, when it comes up, it will be an episode of breath-taking and spell-binding proportions. It will portray the true glory of Quran not only in terms of its great message but also of its high literary stature.

God bless you.

4.Naeem Sheikh: As per your advice I kept my horse held, it happened better in my favor

Because my horse was unable to climb at QAZIKISTAN’S HILLS were YAJOOJ MAJOOJ are confined (by maodoodi)

Brother Aurangzaib is very right in his inference as given here “Let us now refrain from mingling mythology, or out of Quran stuff, with Quranic explanation. You know, there is a lot of myth involved in this TITLE, some ancient history has also been superficially dragged into it, and a lot of CONJECTURE too.

By the above meanings from lexicons, Zulqarnain may very well mean “the one capable of - having the power of - conjoining two civilizations together”

My dear Naeem, one should find out the explanation of any quranic verse or story with in the qura’n itself. Let me produce here what I understood from this story, correct me if you have better than mine.
Mind! Qura’n provides guidance to derive rules /laws from each story and commandment for any situation may arise in any society in each era.
The story shows that, " ZULQARNAIN OF THE TIME" (the conjoinor of dawn and dusk communities(civilizations) should take the guidance in his time,if fined similar situation as described in Quran.
#:- If he has power and control with full ruling authority in any demarcated society (country) in any era, as described in verse 18/84,and performs under mentioned tasks(as per quran), could be called ZULQARNAIN.
#:- His dealing with the dusk-nation (defeated group of people) has been described in verses 18/-86-88.
# :-His dealing with the people of the dawn (civilized and developing group of the society), has been taken understood in verses18/90-91
#:- His dealing with the third type of complex community (under developed) in the same country has been described in verses 18/93-98. Here two different types of societies are living together(in clash with each other) One is highly civilized and other is barbarian in his character (YAJOOJ MAJOOJ).
#:-For peace sake he separated them (for the time being) by very strong means, and expressed the hope, that, certainly, time will come, when this obstruction will not be needed any more, see the verse18/98.They all will become very close to each other (like sugar and milk) as a one community see the verse18/99.Zulqarnain knew the sunnstullah regarding sending of prophets in each nation to guide them at right track.

7.Brother Naeem Shaikh,

I am wondering why have you found a controversy in both explanations.
Don't you think they are exactly identical?

8.Brother Aurangzaib ! As I already admitted the logical explanations of “ZULQARNAIN" from both of you is true / appealing. It seems controversial when you claimed that prophet Mohammad was called ZULQARNAIN.

Where as Mr.Moazzam’s inference for the “ZULQARNAIN” is as under. The story teaches that, " ZULQARNAIN OF THE TIME" (the conjoiner of dawn and dusk communities / civilizations) should take the guidance in his time, if similar situation may arise (as described in Quran). If he has power and control with full ruling authority (in any demarcated society / country) in any era, as described in verse 18/84,and performs under mentioned tasks(as per quran), could be called ZULQARNAIN.
