1.

TRANSLATION BY YOUSAF ALI IS

223. Your wives are as a tilth unto you; so approach your tilth when or how ye will; but do some good act for your souls beforehand; and fear Allah. And know that ye are to meet Him (in the Hereafter), and give (these) good tidings to those who believe.

2.Seems like this is not about the "wives" its strange that the Quran does not use the word for wife when it talks about a wife, but rather a general word for women. If the Koran is not clear about when its talking about wives and when its talking about women in general, then anyone who have girlfriend or fiance is allowed to "approach" his woman whos is declared as his "thilth".

Neik amal aagey behjo apne kal k liye, Allah se dartey raho or jaan rakho k ek din tumhe Allah k aagey peish hona hai or aey peghamber tum emaan waloon ko basharat suna do.

4.Dear friends,

How about this translation? (2/223) :

The WEAKER SEGMENTS OF YOUR SOCIETY (نسائوکم) are your ASSETS / CAPITAL ( حرث لکم ) so keep in contact with them as and when you may like and take precedence (تقدموا ) in working for / favouring your people and be watchful of Allah's commands; and let it be known to you that you stand to face HIS judgments; and offer glad tidings to those who strive for PEACE.

God bless you.

6.Dear Saad,

To give up old dogmas and to have trust in authentic research, a probing broadmindedness and a flair for always keeping up to date in knowledge is needed. We cannot impose a new idea upon our participants. They themselves have to be willing to look from alternate angles. But we can always appeal to their senses and logic.

If I remember well, I think in your last posts you insisted that we keep ourselves stuck to Allama Pervaiz' thought pattern. Since you seem to like him to the level of blind following, so I may give you a reference from His Tabweeb which you certainly will not deny. Please open Page 1048 of TABWEEB, go to the lower part under heading عورت and go through the last two lines of the first paragraph and see that it reads :-

مجازی معنوں میں یہ لفظ قوم کے اس طبقہ کے لئے آیا ہے جو جوہر مردانگی سے عاری ہو ۔

I am a novice in comparison of my former teacher Allama Pervaiz. But Research tells me that the above statement of his, though it may authenticate the meaning given by me above, is still a little bit out of line. Allow me to say that "weaker segments" is actually the "Root meaning" of the word NASU AND NOT THE Mataphorical or مجازی meaning as stated by Ustaad Allama Pervaiz.

God bless you.

7.Dear all, although we are waiting for the ELABORATION OF COMPLET SURA BAQARA BY Dr.QAMARZAMAN,where we hope, the topic under debate will be satisfied.Because MEANING OF NISA became perennial question at this forum at this time, let me share the comments with you all.No doubt the word "NISA " is used in Quran for women and the weaker persons of the society, and lexicone also justify both the meanings, even then the context will determine the selection of true meanings at that perticular verse. In sura baqara so many topics has been discussed. The topic of QITALstart from the verse 2/190-193.The verse 2/196-214 is regarding HAJJ(the congrigation) which could be related to the matters of QITAL also.Vers 2/220 is for YATAMA which could also related to QITAL's (war)efects. The verse 2/222 is related to the battle field or with the women in both cases it does't change the sense of main topic related to QITAL.Now come at the verse 2/223,in my opinion ,if NISA means WOMEN here then through out from 2/223--2/241 we must take the same meanings NISA as a WOMEN and could be related to the main subjet of QITAL,because all the matter discussed in these verses could be the consequencies of QITAL(war),where so many women might become widows, the men might misplced, disabled ,therefore, the divine instructions might be for family units reheblitation,TALAQ and NIKAH etc.The verse 2/244 is again for the main subject of QITAL,which ends at verse 2/252.My humble request to all participants is plz use the lexiconic tool to select the meaning of NISA keeping in view the main subject under discussion at that perticulor place in Quran.

8.Yes dear brother Moazzam,

once we agree upon both the meanings of NISA, i.e., Weaker Classes and Women, there should be no problem in letting the context decide which of the two meanings applies.

Sure, the context is the final judge.

The problem we are facing right now is that one of the two meanings of NISA as the "Weaker Classes of Society" is not being digested fully by some participants. That's why the discussion is going on.

Regards.

9.Dear Aurangzaib, regards.I think if participants may select other subjects from Quran where the same word"NISA" is used but NIKAH AND TALAQ terminologies are not attached, like YUZABBIHONA ABNAAKUM WA YASTAHYUNA NISAUKUM,to find out the one of the two meaning of NISA.This is an advise to ease your debate,THANKS

10.Brother Moazzam,

Three Verses on the topic you suggested have already been referred somewhere during the discussion. They are
Al Baqarah: 94, al-Aaraaf: 127 and Al-Momin: 25.
Thanks.
